Shark's Cave
Shark's Cave is one freaky movie. Actually, calling it freaky is probably an insult to freaky movies everywhere. Made in the late 70s and sporting a largely Mexican cast, its plot literally defies description. We're not really sure but we think it's some kind of weird Bermuda Triangle meets Jaws hybrid. Think of it as your standard possessed shark, Aztec Temple, superior alien race, dive movie. No more, no less.
With that cleared up, the diving scenes are actually decent. There are close to 25 minutes of underwater footage, most of it shown in long, unbroken sequences. Of course, there are sharks, and shark attacks. Our favorite is when a shark decapitates a diver and then swims off with his head in its mouth, while the diver's buddy grabs his now-headless corpse and uses it to fend off the rest of the sharks. It's almost funny -- almost.
Our recommendation: don't bother with this one. But if you get your hands on a copy and can just zip around from dive scene to dive scene, well, that's another story. Shark's Cave is available on DVD.
