| September Storm
September Storm came out in 1960, making it one of the first in a long line of underwater treasure movies. Despite the images on the right, the movie is in color. In fact, it was shot in 3D, which gives it a pretty bad look on TV. The plot is laughably bad. There's the handsome, young good guy, his new model girlfriend, the charming bad guy and his goofy second banana. For reasons too complicated and moronic to go into, the four of them end up on a boat together in search of underwater gold. There are two things September Storm has going for it, kind of. First, the unpredictability of the characters. The good guy turns out to be not so good, the girlfriend not so faithful, the bad guy not so bad, and the second banana not so loyal. Okay, that's not really very much. The second thing, though, is the underwater photography. There are approximately 15 minutes of underwater footage and some of it's pretty good. Of course, the production values are low throughout and as much as the movie's plot stretches credulity, the ending is even worse. That being said, if you've got nothing else to do and feel like watching some fresh dive scenes, this one might do in a pinch. September Storm is not yet available on DVD but there are bootleg copies of it floating around on E-bay and some other web sites. We'd advise not paying more than a buck or two. |
